What is the Main Street Four-Point Approach?
The Main Street 4-Point Approach is a community-driven, comprehensive strategy encouraging economic development through historic preservation in ways appropriate to today’s marketplace. Each of the four points is equally important to a successful downtown. To get an overview, view a PowerPoint presentation on the program here. Think of the four-point approach this way:
- Organization: Getting everyone working toward the same vision for downtown
- Promotion: Getting more people to visit your downtown
- Design: Getting downtown into top physical shape
- Economic Restructuring: Getting your downtown businesses healthier
Design
Enhance downtown's physical environment by capitalizing on its best assets including
- preserving historic buildings
- creating an inviting atmosphere
- encouraging attractive window displays and signs
- maintaining attractive landscaping
- providing adequate and safe parking
- keeping the districts in top physical condition by promoting safety, creating maintenance plans, encouraging adaptive re-use, and providing motorized and non-motorized access.
Please note, the September 19, 2011 meeting has been cancelled and will be made up at a date TBD.
